SPRINGFIELD —

A man who may have suffered a stroke Tuesday while driving was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center after crashing into an empty parked car and utility pole near Sunset Avenue and Selma Road.

Springfield police, who were at a Marathon gas station on Sunset Avenue, said they saw an erratic driver in the 1000 block of Selma and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The driver then veered into the parked car and struck a utility pole, snapping it in half and bringing down wires into the intersection.

The condition of the driver was not immediately available. His age was not released by police.

Sgt. Doug Pergram said he does not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.
