MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – City leaders gave faculty and administrators from Cincinnati State a downtown tour. The Middletown Journal says that the school is looking for a branch campus city, and Middletown is wooing school leaders.
Cincinnati State Chair of Business Technologies Peggy Harrier says the main campus in Cincinnati is landlocked. She says Middletown, with its location between two major cities, and available land, is a perfect fit. She says the school would be foolish to pass up Middletown’s offer.
City Manager Judy Gilleland led a tour which included the arts center, Beauverre Riordan Studios, Pendleton Arts Center, former Cinergy building, Manchester Inn, former Middletown Senior Citizens Center and the City Building.
Harrier believes Cincinnati State students would feel comfortable in Middletown. She is also impressed with Smith Park, a possible partnership with the YMCA, and nearby fast-food restaurants.
Middletown leaders say that the idea has been discussed for a long time. But this was the first time that Cincinnati State representatives received an actual tour of the city.
School leaders say a few select classes could be offered as soon as next fall. Classes could be in the city building or Miami University Middletown until the downtown buildings are renovated.
The next step is a tour by what the school calls its “best and brightest”, members of the school senate. That is scheduled for next week.
