Staff Report

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio —

Authorities are looking for the driver of a van who led them on a high-speed chase early Monday morning.

The pursuit began after a trooper with the Ohio State Highway patrol signaled for a blue Ford Windstar to pull over for going 81 mph on southbound Interstate 75 near the Ohio 73 exit, where the speed limit is 65 mph.

The driver of the van did not pull over, and reached speeds of over 100 mph before taking the Ohio 122 exit in Middletown, according to troopers.

Middletown Police put spike strips down, and although the van drove over the strips, its tires were not deflated. Police slowed down as they drove over the spike strips, and in the process, lost sight of the van, according to reports.

The van was found on an alley off of Arlington Street in Middletown, and a K9 unit was able to track about a block and a half down the street to an abandoned car and garage. No one was found insider, and authorities believe the driver had someone pick them up, according to reports.

At this time, it is unknown if the driver was a man or a woman. The van's registered owner told authorities  that a male acquaintance had borrowed the vehicle, troopers said.
