I-75 on-ramps downtown will be closed for years

Staff Report

DAYTON —

Starting Monday morning, drivers on Interstate 75 will no longer be able to use the on-ramp from Second Street or Third Street to get on I-75 north  from downtown Dayton.

And those ramps will be out of service for five years. It’s all part of ODOT’s “I-75 Modernization Project.” The ramp closures start at 9 a.m. Monday. ODOT has already posted detours.

Drivers, already weary of orange barrels, had different responses to the latest closures.

“I pretty much avoid 75 going to work and even in the evenings … if there’s another way to go around it we go around it” said Mike Avery of Huber Heights.

“Kind of laugh,” said Sherry Linn of Huber Heights,”because it goes on.  It’s just never ending!”

Drivers will have to take Second Street or Third Street to Jefferson Street to Monument Avenue. From there, they will have to get on Main Street and use the ramp from Main Street to get on I-75 north.

ODOT said the Second and Third Street ramps will be rebuilt and remain closed until 2017.
