RIVERSIDE —

A young mother died in a crash that shut down part of Harshman Road at Beatrice Drive.

The driver of a small car that drifted into oncoming traffic has died as a result of the injuries she sustained, according to Riverside Deputy Police Chief Mike Brown.

The woman was unconscious when medics removed her from the scene.

Brown said it appears that the small silver car driven by that victim was southbound on Harshman when it drifted into the northbound lane for an unknown reason. The driver appeared to attempt to brake, but slid instead, exposing the passenger side of the car to oncoming northbound traffic.

A sport utility vehicle struck the small car in its side. The SUV’s driver was also injured and transported to a local hospital, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The crash occurred at about 3:20 p.m. near the intersection with Arrowrock Avenue. Our reporter on the scene said there was heavy damage to the small silver car.
