Authorities are working to determine the circumstances under which a man was reportedly stabbed overnight in Preble County.

Around 1:30 a.m., the victim and his girlfriend contacted the Preble County Sheriff’s Office and reported the stabbing from a residence in West Manchester.He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with a stab wound to an arm.

His injuries were not life-threatening, according to authorities.

The case was referred to Eaton police after the girlfriend said the stabbing occurred in their jurisdiction.

Eaton Chief Chad DePew said six different locations were mentioned as the location of the stabbing — including a vacant house. Police couldn’t find any evidence of a crime scene at any of the locations, DePew said.

“We’re still trying to figure out what happened,” he said. However, DePew said there was “a lot of blood” at the residence in West Manchester where they were when authorities were contacted.

Neither the victim nor the girlfriend were being cooperative with investigators, DePew said, adding they were drunk at the time of the report.

The victim lives in West Alexandria and the girlfriend lives in Richmond, Ind., according to DePew. It’s unclear why they were in West Manchester overnight.
