BEAVERCREEK, Ohio —
Police are looking for a woman and the man dressed in a dark colored hooded sweatshirt who grabbed her inappropriately in one of the parking garages at The Greene late last month.
If police find the man, he’ll be banned from the town center at 51 Plum St. forever, Beavercreek police Capt. Jeff Fiorita told News Center 7 reporter Kate Bartley on Friday afternoon.
If police can find the victim, Fiorita said, the suspect could also face a charge of sexual imposition. The problem is that the victim did not file a complaint with police from the Jan. 28 incident.
Police became aware of the incident through an anonymous call to security at The Greene, Fiorita said.
The incident occurred on the lower level of the Beech parking garage about 6 p.m. Still photos from the mall security surveillance video shows the woman walking toward the breezeway between Victoria's Secret and The Loft when the man walks up behind her and reaches under her jacket to touch her backside.
He then turns and goes up the stairway to the second level of the garage, one of two parking garages at the town center.
He is described as white and in his 20s. He has a thin to medium build, black hair, dark eyebrows, and a mustache. He also was wearing denim jeans and bright white tennis shoes.
“It was daylight,” Fiorita said. “He’d have to be pretty brazen to do that.” In the security video, the man can be seen reaching out to grab the woman. He then “milled around in the garage for a bit before he decided to leave” in a late-model Honda Civic, Fiorita said.
Moments before the incident, the suspect gave one of the security cameras a good picture of himself when he looks right into the lens. “He probably doesn’t realize that while he’s in the elevator, there are cameras in the elevators,” Fiorita said.
Fiorita said he can’t recall any such issues being reported at The Greene in the past.
Friday afternoon, The Greene was busy as usual. Shoppers who spoke with News Center 7 seemed surprised to hear about the incident, but said it wouldn’t deter them from visiting the mall.
“I’ve felt safe, comfortable, said Amy Heiman. “I can’t imagine why they would have problems here. I’ll be here until the day I die.”
