Police: Trotwood body ID’d; no foul play

TROTWOOD —

A woman found dead in a garage of an abandon house likely overdosed on heroin, police said.

Trotwood Police Capt. John Porter conducted a news conference Tuesday afternoon to announce police do not feel there was foul play.

Candace Ayles, of Clay Twp., was publicly identified by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday.

The coroner’s office was called to the 1500 block of Red River Street on Monday after a man walking in the yard past an open garage on the property saw Ayles inside, Trotwood Sgt. William Moore said earlier Monday evening.

The person who made the discovery tried to awaken Ayles, Moore said.

A neighbor told police that a heavy-set white person was seen going in and out of the garage, Moore said, noting the neighbor also said the deceased appeared to be homeless.

Ayles had no identification, the sergeant said, and there were no apparent signs of injury or struggle.

Moore said Ayles was wearing a sweatshirt and denim jeans.

The person who found her and two witnesses, who were detained by police in order to speak with detectives, are not believed to be involved in the death, Moore said.

Porter said he believes heroin usage is a continuing problem and in his own analysis last year found close to 12 overdoses in Trotwood within a year.
