A 38-year-old New Paris man was sentenced Friday to at least 10 years in prison in exchange for his pleas to several sex-related charges, the Preble County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Christopher Scott was sentenced in county Common Pleas Court to the indefinite term of 10 years to life for rape involving a child, Prosecutor Martin Votel said.

Scott also pleaded guilty to charges of sexual battery, gross sexual imposition and importuning. The sentences on those charges are to be served concurrently with the rape count, according to the court. If he is ever released from prison, Scott would be classified as a Tier III sexual offender, which would require him to regularly register with authorities.

Scott will serve a mandatory 10 years before he becomes parole eligible.

The plea deal, which makes parole eligibility possible, was reached with the agreement of the victim’s family, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Scott’s victim was 11 years old when the crimes were discovered in June, according to Votel.

During the interview process, the girl told investigators that Scott began molesting her when she was 6 years old and that the molestation increased in frequency and severity over time.

Scott admitted to authorities that he had engaged in sexual conduct with the child over an extended period of time, according to Votel’s office.
