UPDATED: Sidney chase suspect jailed on $25K bond

Staff Report

SIDNEY, Ohio —

The man who led police on a high-speed chase Thursday night has been charged with miltiple crimes.

Police arrested 51-year-old Darrel W. Browning and charged him with an OVI, obstructing official business, failure to comply with the orders of a police officer, vandalism and attempted vehicular assault.

On Friday morning, Browning appear in Sidney Municipal Court, where he pleaded not guilty. He is being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

The  pursuit that started at about 10:50 p.m. Thursday ended  in Logan County on Ohio 235, about two miles north of Ohio 47 about a half-hour after it started.

Officers said Browning was inside the Dawg Pound Lounge, 553 North Vandemark Road,  and was asked to leave earlier in the night.  He then drove recklessly in the parking lot of the bar and ran his vehicle into the business.  A window was broken out of a door at the business, according to a witness.

Browning also attempted to strike bar patrons as they left Dawg Pound Lounge. When police responded, Browning refused to cooperate with officers and the chase started.

Speeds ranged from 50 mph to more than 100 mph during the incident, which began near Buckeye Avenue and Country Side Lane in Sidney with Shelby County deputies in pursuit.

The pursuit continued along Pike Street near Main Street in Sidney as stop-sticks -- spiked tire deflation devices -- were used by law enforcement officers on Russell Road near St. Marys Avenue in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle.

Officers continued the chase east out of the city, entering Logan County until the vehicle was stopped at Ohio 235 north and Ohio 47.

Sidney Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff's Office and Logan County Sheriff's Office were involved in the pursuit.
