A suspect is sought after a woman’s purse was stolen Friday morning near Airway Shopping Center on Woodman Drive.

According to police, an elderly woman had just sat down in her car and was getting ready to close the door when a man approached her with a large knife and demanded her purse. The woman gave the suspect her purse, and he ran across the parking lot, police said.

Another man who witnessed the crime tackled the suspect, but when the suspect was able to retrieve his knife, the man let the suspect go. The suspect was last seen running into a nearby neighborhood, police said.

A K9 unit was brought in, but the suspect was not located.

The woman was not injured.

The suspect is described as a white male is his 30s wearing a gray jumpsuit and possibly wearing a ball cap. He has a tattoo on his neck.
