Riverside bar destroyed by fire

Staff Report

RIVERSIDE, Ohio —

Fire destroyed Hank's Hideout early Sunday morning .

Riverside Fire Lt. Chris Tesarz said that, "upon arrival, we found a two-story bar fully engulfed."

He said because of the warm weather, he wanted to have enough personnel to rotate.  Firefighters called for a second alarm, and fire units from Huber Heights, Fairborn, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Beavercreek responded.

Tesarz said the building is a total loss, and the state fire marshal has been called to investigate.

Crystal Allen lives one door away from the bar.

"I woke up and there was flashing lights, she said. "I came around the corner, I saw the place was fully engulfed in flames."

"We see police and fire here quite a bit" she added.

Allen said that Hank's is a "biker bar" and added there have been problems in the past.

She admitted that the flames scared her.

"The flames scared me so badly I ran back to my house to decide what I was going to grab out of my home" she said.

She decided to save her animals.

In describing the fire, she admitted it was "definitely scary...absolutely frightening."

Walt Goldschmidt of Kettering said he was a regular customer at Hank's. And he rides a motorcycle.

"We never have any problem" he said.

Goldschmidt said young people coming in late at night were responsible for most of the trouble at Hank's.

"That's why we never stay that late" said Goldschmidt.
