SPRINGFIELD —
One person was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of North Street and N. Western Avenue Saturday afternoon.
Joel Ryan Campbell, of Donnelsville, was killed in the crash after he was pinned underneath the overturned the black Land Rover he was driving, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
Springfield fire crews received a report of the crash just before 4 p.m. Upon their arrival, they immediately tended to the two vehicle drivers. An unidentified female was ejected from a Chrysler Sebring.
The Ohio State Patrol was on scene with Springfield police, who closed West North Street. The Clark County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene shortly before 5 p.m.
“It sounded like a bomb went off, (and) we all went outside but couldn’t do anything to help them,” said Heather Roberts, who lives in the area. “I’ve lived here six years and it happens all the time.”
Springfield police Sgt. Doug Pergram said West North Street was to be closed for the better part of the evening while the investigation is on going.
