Springfield man wanted in metals theft, chase

By News Staff

SPRINGFIELD —

A Springfield man is wanted after fleeing from police following a suspected metals theft.

Police were called to 202 W. High Street in the early morning hours Monday on a report of suspicious activity. Officers observed two men throwing items into a truck. When officer activated lights, the men fled in the truck.

A chase ensued but officers lost sight of the truck when the driver, who at one point let the passenger out of the truck, turned all lights off. Officers also did not locate the passenger. The driver ran multiple stop signs and was going at an excessive rate of speed, according to the police report.

Later, a sergeant with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office spotted the driver, identified as Jamie L. Back, fleeing from the truck. He was able to see his face, according to the police report.

A cell phone wad found inside the truck, which belongs to Back. Officers also reported the truck was parked at 3267 Lower Valley Pike, where Back resides.

Officers said stolen items found in the truck included copper, wires, brass fittings and other miscellaneous metals.

Back is wanted for failure to comply with the signal or order of a police officer and for breaking and entering.

Anyone with information leading to Back’s arrest is asked to call Springfield Police.
