LOGAN COUNTY —

The school bus driver whose bus rolled into a ditch after sliding off a slick roadway in Stokes Twp., injuring more than a dozen elementary school students, has been cited for a traffic violation.

The Ohio Highway Patrol post in Marysville on Tuesday afternoon said 35-year-old Terrassa Cline has been cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.

The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. Monday on Township Road 88, two-tenths of a mile south of County Road 92, which became snow covered and slippery late in the afternoon. The crash involved an Indian Lake Elementary School bus loaded with 41 students.

All of the passengers, including Cline, were loaded onto another bus and taken to the Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.

“We brought another bus over and brought them all to the hospital as a precautionary measure,” said Indian Lake Local Schools Superintendent Pat O’Donnell.

Fifteen students were treated for minor injuries, mostly bumps and bruises, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

O’Donnell said Cline was shaken up by the accident.

“She did a really good job with getting the kids out of the bus while it was on its side, and keeping the kids under control.

On a 911 call released Tuesday, a woman can be heard saying, “Coats on it’s going to be cold,” and then telling the dispatcher, “The school bus just tipped over.”

At the scene, a captain with the OSP said the snowy weather was definitely a factor in the slide-off.

“She said she lost control. The road was plowed, but she just lost control,” O’Donnell said.
