The clear sky expected tonight will make for ideal viewing of the Leonid meteor shower as up to a dozen an hour could be visible overnight, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson said.

The best time for viewing will be between midnight and sunrise Saturday. A nearly new moon means the sky will be particularly dark in the viewing area.

Look to the east and find a hook-shaped pattern of stars, which is the head of the constellation Leo, hence, the name Leonids, Simpson said. The meteors should appear to originate from that spot.

As far as for the next three days, temperatures will rise to 52 Saturday, 54 on Sunday and 56 Monday.

“Temperatures will still be chilly to start, near freezing, but I believe the mornings in the low and mid 20s are behind us now for a while,” said Simpson. Tuesday will be cloudier with some showers, but it still appears that clouds will be east of the region by sunrise Wednesday.

For Wednesday and Thanksgiving, the Miami Valley will be fairly sunny. Afternoon highs all week will be in the 50s, but Thursday may be the warmest with a few spots approaching 60 degrees, Simpson said.

A cold front will end the mild stretch, either late Friday or Saturday. Some rain and another dramatic drop in temperatures will arrive through next weekend.
