Woman catches on fire while smoking in bed

A 69-year-old Preble County woman was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital overnight with burns on most of her body.

Authorities say the Camden woman was on oxygen and smoking in bed at her apartment on North Liberty Street. That combination created a fire, investigators said.

"The front door was open at the residence and the elderly female was on the floor with burns on 75 to 80 percent of her body," said Chief Michael Roberts Jr. of Camden Fire & Rescue.

Emergency workers said the woman's injuries are extremely serious, but they weren't able to release her exact condition.
