Wright-Pat Air Force Base closed yesterday

By Barrie Barber

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE —

Heavy snowfall and strong winds have led to the closure yesterday of Wright-Patterson, a base spokesman said.

“The weather is coming at such pace that crews can’t keep up with it,” said Daryl Mayer, a base spokesman.

The decision to close was made around 8:30 a.m., Mayer said.

Wright-Patterson employs more than 29,000 military and civilian employees and is the largest single site employer in the state.

Base essential personnel, such as snow plow drivers, will report for duty, Mayer said.

He said it was too early to say when the base will reopen for operations.
