LEBANON —

Police are searching for possible victims of a man they said bilked an elderly man out of $80,000 in a bogus home improvement scam.

Michael Shane Carswell, 35, 5608 Zoar Road, Morrow is accused of taking money from a 71-year-old Lebanon resident to fix the latter man’s roof, only to fail to deliver on his end of the bargain. The 71-year-old man allegedly first gave Carswell $5,000 in July 2011 to replace the roof on the man’s house, according to Lebanon Police Detective Robb White. Carswell allegedly told the man the work would take 2-3 weeks to complete.

When Carswell was arrested on Saturday, 14 months after the work was supposed to have been completed, the roof was not fixed and the homeowner had allegedly paid Carswell more than $80,000. The homeowner reported Carswell had continuously returned to the residence requesting more money to complete the project, White said.

Carswell is charged withtheft by deception, a second-degree felony. He is being held at the Warren County Jail on $15,000 bond.

White is asking for other potential victims of Carswell’s alleged scam to contact the Lebanon Police Department at (513) 228-3323.
