DAYTON —
Police arrested a man Sunday evening after he allegedly punched a police officer who was trying to arrest him.
Michael Snell, 44, was arrested on charges of assault, criminal trespassing, resisting arrest and escape, according to police records.
An officer attempted to arrest Snell for trespassing at the United Foods in the 2100 block of North Main Street in Dayton. When the officer was trying to handcuff Snell, he fought back, punching the officer twice and spitting in his face, according to a report.
The officer attempted to call for backup, not realizing his radio had switched channels during the fight. He was eventually able to handcuff Snell and place him in the back of the cruiser.
Both the officer and Snell were taken to Grandview Medical Center to be checked out for injuries sustained in the fight, according to the report.
Snell remains in Montgomery County Jail.
