Man receives 10 years in prison for rape

SPRINGFIELD —

A 27-year-old Springfield man was sentenced to 10 years in prison today after he pleaded guilty to one count of rape for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old boy.

DeAndre Paris was arrested March 31 for raping a boy he knows at an Oakwood Place home. The home belonged to a family member, according to court documents. Paris plead guilty as part of a plea agreement with the Clark County Prosecutor.

The female family member told investigators Paris returned to the home after drinking and fell asleep in a chair with the boy next to him. She was asleep on a couch. She awoke when the boy said Paris was hurting him and observed Paris inappropriately involved with the child, she told officers.

Paris will have to register as a Tier 3 sex offender upon release from prison, and he will be on post release control for five years.

Paris’ attorney said Paris has been struggling with substance abuse, and said his client was “extremely under the influence of alcohol and drugs” the day of the rape. He said his client had little recollection of what he’d done.

Paris was arrested shortly after the incident in the area of South Lowry and West Grand avenues.

Paris was also facing a sexual battery charge, which was dropped as part of the plea agreement, according to court documents.
