ST.MARYS, Ohio —
A man injured in an officer-involved shooting last week has been released from the hospital and booked into jail.
Brad Scheer, 62, of the 600 block of Derrick Street in St. Marys, was released from Joint Township Memorial Hospital Sunday and booked into the Auglaize County Jail on a charge of aggravated menacing, according to reports. Scheer could face additional charges.
The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call last week from Scheer, who told the dispatch center twice he would shoot anyone who came over. He proceeded to hang up on the dispatcher, authorities said.
St. Marys Police responded to the call with assistance from the Auglaize County deputies. When officers approached the residence, the suspect exited the house armed with what appeared to be a long gun, authorities said. Authorities said today that less than 5 shots were fired at Scheer, but specifics have not been released. Scheer was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life threatening.
The gun Scheer was holding was later determined to be a BB gun or pellet gun, police said.
A St. Marys police officer, Luke Turpin, and an Auglaize County deputy, Tyler Price, have be placed on paid administrative leave pending the results of the investigation, which is standard procedure in a case like this, authorities said.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation will conduct an investigation due to involvement from both deputies and St. Marys Police.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, New Bremen Police Department and Wapakoneta Police Department also assisted at the scene.
