Mason woman killed in traffic accident

By Justin McClelland

Staff Writer

A Mason woman was killed Wednesday when she lost control on the snowy highway and hit a snow plow, authorities said.

Jessica Galley, 18, of Mason, lost control of her vehicle around 3 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 71 and was struck by a snow plow, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Galley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Galley was driving a 2003 Buick southbound on I-71 just south of the Fields Ertel exit in Symmes Twp. Galley lost control of her vehicle for unknown reasons and it skidded across the grassy median that separates north and south bound traffic at that area of I-71 and entered the north bound lanes.

As the car continued out of control, Galley’s Buick was struck by an Ohio Department of Transportation snow plow being driving by Scott Wyrick, 46 of Wilmington.

Galley sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Wyrick was not injured.

Galley was a graduate of Mason High School and was enrolled at the University of Cincinnati.

Both Galley and Wyrick were wearing seat-belts at the time of the crash. Neither drugs, alcohol nor speed are believed to have been factors in the crash, the sheriff’s office said.

Portions of I-71 were shut down for several hours following the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
