Shoplifters tell police they needed heroin

MIDDLETOWN —

Middletown police arrested three people during a recent Christmas shopping detail in the city’s East End.

On Nov. 23, while driving through the Target lot on Roosevelt Parkway, officers observed James Miller, 59, of Middletown, getting into a Mazda truck. A few minutes later, Michelle Justice, 32, of Middletown, got out of the truck and walked into Kohl’s.

Justice walked out of Kohl’s with approximately $190 worth of jeans that were allegedly stolen and placed in her purse, according to the police report.

Inside the truck, police located a bag of tools on the back floorboard of the truck and two hypodermic needles and a spoon inside the vehicle.

Justice was charged with theft. Shane Anderson, 32, of Middletown, and Miller confessed to the shoplifting and told police they were going to return the items for gift cards and trade them for heroin.

Anderson was charged with complicity to theft and Miller was charged with complicity to theft and possession of drug abuse instruments.

The tools were stolen from Home Depot in Dayton, and the stolen jeans were returned to Kohl’s.
