Last stretch of highs in the 70s this week

MIAMI VALLEY —

Storm Center 7 is tracking showers and a few thunderstorms west of the area in Indiana that are slowly heading to the Miami Valley. The storms are weakening as they do move to the Dayton area, according to Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson.

The viewing area will experience some showers in the early evening, especially west and mainly northwest. The showers may die out completely before they reach the Dayton or Springfield areas. Clouds will linger tonight and part of Tuesday, said Simpson.

There is a chance for a few more showers on Tuesday, mainly in the morning north of Interstate 70, and the News Center 7 viewing area will see more sun later in the day, especially south. The Miami Valley will remain dry until Friday afternoon.

But the big story this week will be the warmth.

“This will be the last prolonged stretch in the 70s or close to 80 we will have this year,” Simpson said. “Highs Tuesday will be in the mid 70s, then upper 70s Wednesday and Thursday,” he said. Highs on Thursday afternoon will be more than 10 degrees above average, but not close to any records.

On Friday, the Miami Valley will begin to see changes in the temperatures, Simpson said, as clouds will increase through the morning and showers arrive in the afternoon.

The clouds will result in highs reaching only the upper 60s. Friday night football will likely be wet but not as wet as Saturday when steady rain is expected. Those rains may taper off around sunset, but the Miami Valley will hold close to 50 all day.

Sunday looks to be dry, but chilly. Temperatures may reach the upper 40s for the day after starting out in the 30s.
