A driver smashed into the back of a parked car in the Chapelgate neighborhood early Thursday morning and attempted to run after the crash, according to reports.

Officers said the driver was likely speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred around 1:45 a.m. Thursday. The speed limit in the neighborhood is 25 mph and the vehicle the driver smashed into was pushed forward close to 100 feet.

The driver attempted to flee the scene after the wreck, according to neighbors, but police caught up with him. Medics transported the driver to Miami Valley Hospital, where he is expected to recover.

Charges in the case have not officially been filed, but police said the driver likely would face charges of failure to control and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The crash remains under investigation.
