Man expected to survive after Sidney shooting

SIDNEY —

A 27-year-old man was hospitalized early Sunday morning after he was shot twice in the arm. He is expected to survive.

After getting reports of the shooting, Sidney police were dispatched to 402 N. Miami Ave.- Apartment C - around 12:15 a.m. Dustin A. Wexel, of Versailles, had already been transported to Wilson Hospital by an aquaintance, according to Sidney police.

He was later taken to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight. The investigation is ongoing.

Wexel was shot twice, both in his left arm, according to Sidney police Capt. Jerry Tangeman. No gang or drug component is suspected.

Police had little in the way of updates on Monday.

“Right now we’re still going through witness statements,” Tangeman said.

Sidney police issued a statement Sunday evening that said, “The victim has not been forthcoming with information surrounding the shooting. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the Sidney Police Department.”
