A Dayton man was arrested early Wednesday morning outside of Club Vault after hitting a police officer.

Police responded to the bar, 20 N. Jefferson St., at 1:47 a.m. on the report of shots fired. Police did not find anything in reference to gunfire, but stayed on scene until the club closed. At around 2:30 a.m. an officer approached a group of people where an argument was taking place, according to a police report.

As the officer told two people to stop fighting, one of the subjects walked away. The other, identified as Timothy Body, 28, began to take swings at the officer, according to the report.

Body’s right fist made contact with the officer’s chin, according to the report.

Body claimed he didn’t know it was a police officer. He was taken to jail without further incident
