FAIRBORN —

A suspected drunk driver struck two Fairborn police cruisers Monday night near the intersection of Beaver Valley and Old Yellow Springs roads.

According to police, a Fairborn police officer pulled up to a vehicle that was stopped partially in the roadway in the 100 block of E. Dys Road and partially in a Speedway parking lot. The driver appeared to be falling asleep, and once alert, refused to unlock his door, roll down his window or turn off his engine, according to police.

After numerous warnings, the officer busted out the passenger side window, at which time the driver put the car in drive and left the scene, police said.

The driver went through a red light at Dys Road and South Maple Avenue and turned right on Beaver Valley Road, according to police. The driver was seen driving erratically and crossed over into the opposite lane of travel.

Fairborn officers were able to box the suspect in with their cruisers, at which point the driver struck a police cruiser and backed into a second police cruiser.

Police then took the man, who has not been identified, into custody for suspected impaired driving and failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer.

He added that one officer complained of some elbow pain, but was not transported.

Officers were seen searching and going through the contents of the burgundy colored sedan. The matter remains under investigation.
