Police: Man facing charges after hitting a house

NEW MADISON, Ohio —

A man is being held in the Darke County Jail after police said he slammed his car into a house late Sunday night in the 200 block of West Washington Street.

New Madison police said the man, in his 40s, hit a car parked on the street. Officers said the man then hit a fire hydrant and went up into the yard, where he hit the house. The hydrant was knocked over, but damage to the house is considered minimal.

According to police, the man took off on foot, but was later apprehended.

The man is facing charges of OVI, driving under the influence, and driving under suspension, police said. The name of the man has not been released.
