DAYTON —
A man wanted by Dayton police as part of an investigation into a recent shooting was arrested Wednesday night following a short vehicle pursuit.
Aaron Doakes, 24, led police on the pursuit with his family, including two children, in the vehicle, according to Dayton police.
The pursuit started shortly after 8 p.m. at North Main Street and Turner Road near the city’s northern border with Harrison Twp., according to Dayton Sgt. John Riegel.
The pursuit started after officers got a tip that the suspect in a shooting that occurred a few weeks ago was driving the vehicle in the area, Dayton police Sgt. John Riegel.
Doakes allegedly sped away from the traffic stop and went down North Main to East Siebenthaler Avenue to Merrimac and Pointview avenues.
Riegel said Doakes stopped the vehicle in an alley near Pointview and bailed. Officers caught up to him about a block away when he fell on the ice, Riegel said.
Riegel said officers recovered a handgun in the vehicle and Doakes was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained while falling on the ice.
Also in the vehicle were two young children and their mother. Police said the mother took custody of the children.
Doakes was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of felonious assault, resisting arrest, child endangering and several other potential charges. It’s unclear which recent shooting incident he was allegedly involved in.
