A man was shot in the knee late Wednesday night after an alleged robbery involving prescription pills.

DAYTON —

Police suspect a man robbed a woman at gunpoint of prescription pills inside a home on Summit Square Drive, and another man who became involved was shot, according to officers.

The shooting occurred at an apartment at the Summit Square Apartments, 767 Summit Square Dr., around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers were called to the address after receiving reports of a shooting and once they arrived at the scene, they found a man shot in the knee.

Preliminary investigation suggested a woman visiting the house just had a prescription filled and another man inside the residence held a gun at the woman and demanded the pills, said Sgt. Richard Blommel, Dayton Police Department.

Another man intervened in the altercation and that is when the suspect opened fire, shooting the victim once. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Blommel.

Blommel said there were four or five other people inside the house when the gunfire occurred and several of them were babies. The babies however were not close to the violence, he said.

Police believe they have some strong leads on suspects and the incident remains under investigation by the Dayton Police Department.
