GREENE COUNTY —
Neighbors said they heard an explosion and saw a fireball around 4 a.m. Tuesday on Jones Road near Wilberforce-Clifton Road.
When deputies and Ohio Highway Patrol officers arrived on the scene, they found a fully-engulfed 2000 Cadillac. Radio traffic indicated that the driver’s-side door was open.
Officers did not find anyone with the car, or anyone walking away from the scene.
Xenia Township firefighters extinguished the fire.
Investigators are working two possible theories.
1. The driver had mechanical trouble, and pulled off to the side of Jones Road. The driver could have called to get a ride, and left the car. The mechanical problems escalated to the point where the car caught fire.
2. The car was stolen, and the suspect set fire to it before leaving the scene.
Police are planning to contact the person who is registered as the car’s owner to find out more information.
