Franklin school adds security precautions after rumored threat

FRANKLIN, Ohio —

Franklin High School will take extra security precautions this Friday after rumors of violence circulated through the school last week.

Superintendent Arnol Elam said a rumor was going around the school that two male students were going to come and “do some violent acts” He said school officials and sheriff deputies interviewed high school students last week and no student could substantiate that they actually heard the male students make the threat.

The students at the center of the rumor was also interviewed extensively, Elam said.

A letter addressed to parents was sent home with students addressing the rumor, and a call was also placed to parents.

“We’ve communicated this in a variety of ways,” he said.

The district decided to add extra security precautions on Friday in light of the shooting in Newtown, Conn. where 26 people were killed, including 20 children.

“On Friday, that tragic event happened and added panic to the situation,” Elam said.
