Mont. sheriff: Drop unused medicines at HQ

DAYTON —

Residents can now drop off their unused medications at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Phil Plummer announced Tuesday that a prescription drug collection box has been put in the lobby at the sheriff’s headquarters, 345 W. Second St.

The initiative is being funded by a grant from the Ohio Attorney General’s office. The program is aimed at keeping prescription drugs off the streets and preventing overdoses, accidental poisonings and environmental contamination, according to the sheriff’s office.

Appropriate items that can be placed in the drop box include non-narcotics, narcotics, over-the-counter herbals and veterinary medications.

Needles, bioharzardous materials and illegal drugs are among items that should not be put in the drop box, according to the sheriff’s office.

Items can be dropped off 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
