Police are questioning a man after shots were fired and a car ran into a house in the 300 block of Navaho Street in Middletown.

A Middletown man is in police custody after he allegedly fired several shots outside his home, then rammed his car through the front door of his residence, police said.

Police said the man allegedly got out of his vehicle, fired shots down the street, then drove his Ford Contour through the door of his home in the 3000 block of Navaho Street around 2 p.m. Thursday. There were no injuries, police said.

Minutes after the man was taken into custody, a woman exited the back of the home and met with the Rev. Lamar Farrell, pastor of Berachah Baptist Church and the Middletown police and fire department chaplain.

The front of the one-story home was severely damaged by the vehicle, and a wooden archway was destroyed. There were several tires marks in the grass.

Middletown detectives and police raked the front yard, looking for evidence of the shooting. Duke Energy was called to shut off power to the home. Middletown firefighters were at the scene because the initial call said the home may be on fire. But the smoke that was reported was from the car’s tires, police said.

Several neighbors described the couple that lived there as “quiet.”

One neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she was watching TV when she heard a “bang, bang, bang.” She thought it was firecrackers, so she didn’t look out her front door. A few minutes later, she heard the police and fire sirens.

She said the man who lives there gave her a few home-grown tomatoes last week. She said the couple “got along pretty good.”
