MIAMI VALLEY —

This winter in Southwest Ohio is slightly above average for snowfall.

Total accumulation of snowfall this winter is 27.5 inches, as measured at the Dayton International Airport, according to Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson.

That’s about 6 inches above the average for the area, and quite a bit more than last winter’s 9.2 inches of snow through March 13.

Simpson described Wednesday’s weather as “a true March snow showers day.”

“The little bit of sun we have been seeing between snow showers has helped new ones form and perpetuate,” he said. “So we should see them die out as soon as the sun gets low in the sky and sets. In fact we should see clouds break up shortly after that.”

Winds, while helping to keep roadways dry, are expected to calm this evening.

Simpson said skies will clear by late evening as temperatures fall to near 20 at sunrise. Thursday should be sunny with highs in the upper 30s, but snow showers have a chance to move in Thursday night southwest of the Dayton area.

“Friday is warmer with highs in the upper 40s then rain arrives in the evening. Still looks like that may end as some snow showers Saturday morning, but with temperatures above freezing no road issues are expected,” Simpson said.

Sunday’s forecast continues to show possible snow in the morning in the far north, then warming to near 40 degrees.
