DAYTON —

Getting a driver’s license doesn’t mean a young driver will always make smart decisions.

An 18-year-old was cited Wednesday for reckless operation after police found a Ford Expedition lying on its side in a field in the 2000 block of Bickmore Avenue.

Police said the teen driver had recently gotten his license and wanted to show off for his friend. Police said the teen lost control of the vehicle while driving erratically in the field.

He and his friend, who fled the scene before police arrived, were not injured.

The driver’s father arrived on scene to take his son home. They declined to be interviewed for this story.
