Trial dates set for 5 accused in Fairfield homicide

By Lauren Pack

Five attorneys and five defendants accused in the shooting death of a 19-year-old Fairfield man lined the courtroom Monday for a hearing to set trial dates.

All five suspects, three men and two women, will have early spring trials, with attorneys coming to court in February for motions hearings.

Jerry Eacholes, 26, of Middletown; Christia Frymire, 19, of Fairfield; and Anthony Givens, 21, of Hamilton, will all be tried together in a five-day trial scheduled to begin May 21.

Earlier trials dates were set for defendants Joseph Goodin, 25, of Middletown, and Misty Williams, 19, of Fairfield, who will each receive separate trials. Goodin is scheduled to stand trial April 23 and William on April 16. All five are charged with murder, aggravated burglary and robbery with gun specifications for slaying of Julian Slaven in November.

Separate trials are needed because of statements made by some of the defendants about the crimes, according to court Assistant Butler County Prosecutor David Kash.

Slaven’s family, including his mother, was in the courtroom but declined comment. The front row was filled with family of those accused who also refused to comment.

Bond for Eacholes, a former Baltimore Street Gang member, and Givens, who police believe is the brother of another member of the same gang, is $500,000 each. Bond is set at $200,000 for both Williams and Frymire. A $1 million bond was set for Goodin, who prosecutors say is the shooter in Slaven’s homicide.

Gmoser told Oney all five defendants plotted the burglary and robbery together and that makes them all equally guilty. The section of state law that all five were charged under for murder states, in part, that the crime is murder if it was committed during another felony crime.
