HUBER HEIGHTS —

Two vehicles collided head-on near the Old Troy Pike exit on Interstate 70 west early Saturday morning, after police tried to stop a man driving his pickup the wrong way on the highway.

Englewood Police tried to catch up with the wrong-way driver and eventually pulled him over about a half mile away from where the crash occurred, said Huber Heights Sgt. Chris Kash. When the Englewood officer approached the vehicle, the driver took off and caused the crash a short time later, Kash said.

The pickup collided with another car near the Old Troy Pike overpass. A woman was driving the car and avoided any type of injury, police said. The driver of the pickup also was not injured.

“A very fortunate situation. There was only one passenger in each vehicle, both passengers did not sustain any injuries,” Kash said. “Most of the time these end up with critical injuries or fatal injuries.”

The pickup driver has been identified as Jason Sluss, 31, and he was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to Kash. He was taken into custody by the Huber Heights Police Department and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

Kash said the woman reported she was driving around 65 mph when the collision happened.
