Xenia Twp. administrator Alan D. Stock can’t say what Kil-Kare Raceway officials will discuss at tonight’s township meeting. But he is certain about this: The township is not trying to drive the Greene County speedway and dragstrip out of business.

“I would sure hope that was very clear from the last meeting that we had,” Stock said referring to the Sept. 6 meeting that drew a crowd of more than 300 people, the majority of them racers and track employees supporting the facility owned by David Coterel. “You can never over-communicate something positive, can you?”

Another large crowd is expected to attend the 7 p.m. meeting at the township’s office at 8 Brush Row Road north of Xenia. Coterel is not expected to attend. According to Kil-Kare’s Facebook page, Coterel plans to remain at Kil-Kare (located on Dayton-Xenia Road) during the meeting as the track hosts its weekly Test & Tune session. Marshall Foiles, Kil-Kare director of operations, is expected to represent the track.

Kil-Kare officials could not be reached for comment. Kil-Kare was not officially on the last meeting’s agenda, but Coterel and others supporting the track addressed the trustees during open comments.

“I can’t tell you exactly when they will be up, but they will be on the agenda,” Stock said. “All I can tell you is they asked to be on the agenda to address the board. They have not given us any precursor as to what that will be in regard to. They would simply like to speak to the board.”

Kil-Kare representatives have expressed concern on the track’s Facebook page about the township’s plans to purchase a decibel reader as well as a new decibel nuisance ordinance that could be aimed at the track’s Friday night oval racing and Saturday drag racing.

In other recent business involving Kil-Kare, the township’s Board of Zoning Appeals approved in March Kil-Kare’s request for conditional use that allowed for concerts, festivals, haunted trails, swap meets and other events. About 50 people complained about the possible new uses on the parcels of land that surround the track and speedway. Kil-Kare withdrew its request in June.

“When folks come out what we try to do is ask them to be respectful of one another and their opinions,” Stock said of his expectations for tonight’s meeting. “For the most part that usually happens.”
