Heavy snow continued to fall across Southwest Ohio overnight, causing widespread hazardous road conditions..

A steady rain early Tuesday evening changed to snow as temperatures dropped to freezing or below freezing.

As of 11:15 p.m., general snowfall measurements across the area ranged between 2 and 4 ½ inches, Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek said, noting that the heavy snow would continue well into the night at a rate of 1 inch to 1-and-a-half inches per hour in spots.

Along with making for very low visibility, 3 to 5 additional inches of snow is possible with even higher amounts in isolated areas. The heaviest band of snow was expected to set up north of Interstate 70 as initial storm forecasts called for 4 to 8 inches for the northern parts of the Miami Valley region, and 3 to 5 inches in the southern section of the area, which includes Butler and Warren counties.

The low temperatures only made travel conditions worse overnight.

As road conditions worsened Tuesday evening, authorities responded to slide-offs and various other crashes. Traffic on Interstate 675 north, in the area of Fairborn, was slowed for a time as police and a heavy wrecker tow truck worked to clear a crash that left a semitrailer jackknifed in the median.

Closer to sunrise, The rate of snow will drop off and the snowfall will be more scattered. Most of the snowfall will taper by mid-morning today as clouds will linger and high temperatures will remain close to freezing.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for all of southwest Ohio and Wayne County, Ind., through 1 p.m. today. Randolph County, Ind., is under a warning through 7 a.m. today.

For the remainder of the week, temperatures will be on the rise with 30s on Thursday, 40s on Friday, and 50s Saturday.
