1988 - Riverfront Stadium

July 12, 1988: The All-Star game came one day after steady rain washed out the Home Run Derby, marking the only time the event was not held since it began in 1985. The American League beat the National League 2-1 on the strength of Terry Steinbach’s two-run home run off Doc Gooden in the third inning. Shortstop Barry Larkin (0-for-2) and third baseman Chris Sabo were the Reds’ representatives in the game. Sabo, who would go on to win National League Rookie of the Year honors, made only a brief appearance in the game, stealing second base as a pinch runner for Gary Carter in the seventh inning.
